Absent Healing is where the client is not present in the room with the healer and yet still receives energy work from them. Classic absent healing requires only a name or a photograph of the person requesting the healing. The energy healer will “intend” a healing response, or perform some variation on mediumship (channeling). In the low-technology days (before email and Skype) this was the only option open to many looking for spiritual healing. Although now a somewhat dated approach compared to distance healing via teleconferencing, an absent healing session still remains an option.
My own first experience of the psychic world was a classical absent healing. At thirty years old I had received surgery for the removal a cancerous tumor, and was contemplating a prophylactic – and risky – course of radiation therapy. I don’t remember how I found this wonderful English spiritualist medium who worked with her father, a physician. She took my name and information over the telephone, and said her father would “take a look at me” and report back to her on my health.
Her father had died ten years previously.

For my scientific brain at the time this was almost too much to accept; I was not the best candidate for accepting a spiritual medium at face value. Nevertheless, one week later I found myself calling her back for the results of her dead doctor’s visit with me. “My father says you are clear of cancer, and there will be no further problem with it.” Her warm and confident words melted away the icy fingers of fear that had been locked around my heart since my surgery. As a professional healer I never give any medical advice (it is practicing medicine without a license) and yet I still remember the impact of her words. Something shifted inside me, on that cold English evening long ago, when I knew with certainty that I would not die an early death. Faith healing? Not really. I had been touched by spirit.
It would be five more years before I would move from my meditation and martial art practices into the fledgling beginnings of my own spiritual energy work with others. This experience of an absent healing was the first step in my opening to the spirit world. Perhaps, like myself, an absent healing (minus the medical diagnosis and advice!) can move you in the right direction; to open up your mind beyond the rational medical system, and to accept the support of spirit.
Classical absent healing usually costs a minimal amount, enough to compensate the healer for their time. And how much had my first English medium asked, for working with me?
No money at all.

I much appreciate the article … knowing your beginnings into healing helps me to feel good about where I am in my own.
