Enter The Dragon! In the West we celebrate the Gregorian New Year on January 1, but out here in Asia it is followed up with the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration: 2012, the year of the male water Dragon. It’s a noisy holiday, as you can see in my video (click the photo of the Lion on the left). The Chinese consider the Dragon to be unpredictable, and everyone is assuming 2012 year will be a wild one. Strap yourself in!

What’s New on DeanRamsden.com

Coming soon: the 2012 Astral Energetics home study class. I will also be teaching my Japan student and public classes in April.

I am offering a July (or early August) 2012 week-long training intensive in advanced chakra cord work (taught only in English) here in North Borneo, for the adventurous amongst you. Details to follow later this month, or contact me directly.

My long-dormant Newsletter will be reinstated this month. I’ve been consumed with my private practice, teaching practice, and website development, for the past year, and the newsletter had fallen by the wayside. But now I am committed to sending out them out monthly.

On a personal note, I am having a creative time preparing some of my material for an eBook publication later this year. Between Skype healing sessions, teaching work, writing/photography work, and website development projects, I’m living a happy and fulfilled life, and I do wish the same for you.

Finally, I want to express my appreciation to my favorite WordPress theme author, Jason Bobich, for all his impressive work. My current website design is an upgrade from a previous Jason Bobich theme, and now comes with all the bells and whistles you could possibly want from a professional website. My new WordPress site is termed “responsive”, meaning that you can view it on your iPad, your iPhone, your Android (or other smart phone), and the site should be easy to read. With the addition of a faster web server put in place during January DeanRamsden.com is now prepared to dance with the Dragon! I hope you come back often to enjoy all the additional articles, mp3 audio, and video that will be posted here over the coming months.

Thanks so much for visiting this site, and please don’t hesitate to post a comment or send a private email with suggestions or comments for this site.

There are many ways to improve our lives, or to heal from events in our past. For hundreds of years people turned towards religion to give meaning to the events of life, and to find support for the challenges we face in adult life. When traditional religion was not enough we turned to the Shaman or wise person, and sought help from those with more experience of the spiritual world than ourselves. More recently, people have turned towards psychotherapy or hypnotherapy, as secular alternatives, in the hope that by understanding and talking about our personal challenges we will overcome them. So, where does energy healing fit in to personal or spiritual growth?

Energy healing should not be chosen as an alternative for religion, or for traditional psychotherapy. Energy healing has but one mandate: to speed up or enhance an individual’s personal growth, and physical healing process. When a healer interacts with the energy field of another person they should be able to do the following:

Perceive where a client needs support, or energetic repair, that will lead towards a significant shift in their lives;

Assess the impact of hidden forces acting upon the client’s energy system (such as Astral, or spirit being, influences) and remove them;

Support an inner shift of consciousness in the client towards personal growth;

Help the client tap into under-utilized or hidden inner resources at their disposal;

Actively energize, or clear, the auric system of the client so as to maximize personal growth or healing. (This can be done at a distance, unlike physical healing methods);

Become a therapeutic ally on the client’s personal journey towards finding happiness, fulfillment, and good health;

Enhance the natural physical healing process of the client.

Each healer has their own system the ascribe to, and prospective clients should pay attention to the healer’s speciality. This is similar to going to your doctor, in that there are general practitioners and there are specialists. In medical healing we often use the services of several professionals in order to fully heal our physical body, and energy healing can be viewed in a similar, practical fashion. There are all-in-one energy healers, and there are specialists. It will be up to the client to interview their prospective healer, and make sure that what is offered is what is needed.

In a similar fashion to medical healing, we may need to try different practitioners until we find someone that fits with our personality: our style of personal growth. This will be very individual to each client, and is important to take into consideration. Some clients prefer to work with a famous healer or spiritual leader (or guru), assuming this is the best available to them. Others prefer a more personalized approach: one-on-one healing work that efficiently drills down into the issues, and works towards resolving them in such a way that personal growth leads also towards spiritual evolution. The choice is always ours, and the options are many.

What are Astral Energetics?

This is the first in a short series of teleclasses that I am offering, which will explore working with the Astral world for modern day therapeutic healers. Once we can become aware of how the Astral world affects us (and our clients) we can then develop effective healing skills that can either reveal, or modify, the Astral influences upon them. This course is not about a “defense” against the Astral, or fear about the spirit world; it is about working with the Astral domain’s vitalizing impact upon the world, whilst also bringing our healthy participation to bear upon it.

Astral Energetics helps energy healers deal with spirit world intrusions (or support) offered from the spirit world. These skills bridge the two worlds of ritual magic and therapeutic energy healing. We will blend the roles of the psychic, the magician, and the therapist into a powerful way to assist our clients in their evolution.

If you are working with a spirit guide, or attending channeled sessions given by a medium, you are already interacting with the Astral world. Spirit communication – just like human contact skills – needs to be learned well. This class will highlight how we can perceive Astral influences (both positive and challenging) with the emphasis on developing effective Astral healing skills for use in our private practices. It will draw on the insights and knowledge of previous magicians and researchers, from Emanuel Swedenborg, the Theosophical teachers, writings from The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and especially the late Dr Stylianos Atteschlis (aka, “Daskalos”).

Embedded within this past knowledge lies the direction our modern approach to Astral energy healing can take now: where we seek not to force the world to conform to our will, but where we assist a client in coming to terms with the truth – their truth – of their soul evolution. It is this guiding principle – not to hijack the inner authority of the client while working with them – that is the golden rule of Astral Energetics. If we unconsciously or deliberately embed our own choices that override the client’s inner authority, then we fall into the darker side of ritual magic: manipulation, or sorcery. In order to avoid this easy mistake we must always engage in self-reflection and brutal self-honesty during our work with others. We must dedicate ourselves, as Daskalos often said, to being Researchers of Truth.

In this, Class One of Astral Energetics, we will explore the influences on the specialized field of Astral Healing. We will practice some of the foundational disciplines and mental/emotional training that all magicians must learn. To work with the non-visible Astral inhabitants we will need to develop some specific skills. For instance, we will need to be able to differentiate between the Etheric body and the Astral bodies. We must accept that our own personal development is a significant aspect in any Astral healing skill work we offer others. We can assist our clients fully in their healing process only after we have successfully completed the same initiation they are undergoing for themselves.

Class outline 1/2

There are books on the Astral world, and on chakras, but little is published on working with the Astral world for therapeutic and personal growth as a healer. This is the first class in a short series aimed at healers wishing to expand access (or deepen existing access) into the Astral domains. It is not a course on how scary or evil Astral demons are, and is not only about how to protect yourself; it is about personal development of your auric energy field so as to reveal the hidden Astral world influences, and to learn how to work effectively with them. The intention is that you will gain practical experience so as to become a more effective healer.

Material to be taught:

1. We begin the class with an historical overview of the Astral domains based on classical esoteric sources such as Theosophy, The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (e.g. Dion Fortune, Aleister Crowley), and Emanuel Swedenborg). To learn Astral healing we must be aware of the principles and function of esoteric magic, which Aleister Crowley defined as “the science and art of causing change to occur in conformity with will”.

2. Dean will present his practical insights and experience gained by having taught Astral Healing skills at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing for a decade. Dean was the BBSH PS2 Class Dean from 1994-2003, and during that time also served as a Department Head of Teacher Training, and as a Vice President of Barbara Brennan, Inc. Dean has practiced Astral healing in his world-wide private practice with clients from 1992 to the present, in conjunction with advanced chakra cord work.

3. We will explore the importance of Dr. Stylianos Atteshlis (“Daskalos”) as a modern magus, and as healer, and contrast him with a previous magician, Aleister Crowley.

4. Working with the Astral domains and developing a modern-day therapeutic perspective towards it is the core of this class. The emotional content of our Astral body affects the functioning and development of the Etheric (light) body, as well as influencing the challenges we face in the everyday world in which we – and our clients – live. We will explore some of the implications of this, and look at the kind of results we can expect to achieve with Astral healing work.

5. We will discuss the three energy bodies of human beings: Material, Etheric, Astral.

6. What are the important differences between our “Present Personality” and our “Permanent Personality”?

7. We will explore Astral Thought-Forms, and focus on how our Present Personality development is affected by them. We will also look at other Daskalos material on Elementals, Archangel energies, and how he saw their function. Dean will also introduce his own research on the importance of Talu chakra and Bindu chakra.

8. Astral domain inhabitants are sentient (or semi-sentient), non-physical individuals, a more respectful way to approach them rather than the label “astral entities”. We will examine the different types of astral world inhabitants, what they want, and how they strive to get it from us.

9. Astral Doorways: The further development of our Etheric & Astral energy bodies. We will deepen our understanding of the power of symbology, as used by esoteric magical traditions, as explored by Carl Jung, and recently exploited by modern corporate culture in order to sell us products and political ideas.

10. Guided practices: to be done outside of the live class, using mp3 audio recordings you will need to download:

1) Focus the mind guided practice.

2) Moving-mind guided practice.

3) Visual-spatial guided practice.

4) Feeling astral energy in your hands guided practice.

5) Astral “Creation of a Thought-Form” (after Daskalos) guided practice.

6) Clearing Talu chakra and the brain stem of lower astral energies guided practice.

Class outline 2/2

11. The importance of self-examination and the tracking of our personal process. Ethical considerations for Astral healers. Respect towards others – and towards the Astral – as foundational in Astral Energetics.

12. The practical applications of Astral Energetics are:

1) Awakening from our primary immersion in the material body (awakening process of spiritual growth)

2) Increased awareness of the powerful and hidden forces in your personal life, and within society at large. Removal of Astral hindrances speeds up personal and spiritual growth, as well as the healing process.

3) The gaining of increased personal power for aligning to our personal goals and intention, and increased effectiveness as an energy healer (or other helping professional)

4) Practical skill development occurs when we can differentiate between Etheric (pranic) healing skills (the structured elements of the auric energy field, such as the chakras, chakra relational and self-cords, and material body prana support), and Astral energy healing skills.

5) The challenge of coming to terms with evil in the world, and the protective function of our psychological denial mechanisms, is far-reaching and an important step in our species development.

13. Practical and essential Astral hygiene for energy workers.

14. Student questions or comments, sent in over email during the class week (including Off-Line Students).

4: Costs & Dates of Classes.

This class outline is an approximate one, and every effort will be made to cover each item. However, please be aware that time restraints in the class may limit the depth of some course material.

* Please note that I do not recommend this course for Barbara Brennan School of Healing (BBSH) PS1 or PS2 students. Some of the material taught in this course could trigger a conflict in your goal to graduate the BBSH Astral Healing skill. I suggest that BBSH undergraduates only attend this class once they are PS3 and above.

Class participants can submit questions or comments about the material to Dean, during the class week.

US/Canadian East Coast Time Zone Class: 250.00 USD

Each of the three parts of the Astral Energetics Class One will consist of two 90-minute lecture segments, and practical guidance exercises led by Dean. After the live Teleclass ends you can go to Dean’s website and download the mp3 audio practice recordings assigned for that day, and utilize them before the next segment begins.

The Class One material is scheduled for : Saturday November 12, 2011 (7.00 PM-10.30 PM EST), Sunday November 13, 2011 (7.00 PM-10.30 PM EST), and the following Saturday, November 19, 2011 (7.00 PM-10.30 PM EST), totaling 9 hrs of live telephone material. Please note this is one week later than originally scheduled. If you cannot attend these dates (or you live outside the US time zone) you can still participate as an Off-Line student, which means you will receive a high-quality recording of each teaching segment (via download) after the live class ends, which you can then listen to at your leisure. Off-Line students only pay for tuition and not telephone line charges, so this option is also a way for you to reduce your cost.

Update on Monday November 7. The On-line Student participation for this class is now closed, but you are invited to attend as an Off-Line Student. See above for details, and please email Dean to enroll by Friday, November 11, 2011.

I have already taught an abridged version of this Teleclass (but minus the downloadable mp3 practice recordings), with simultaneous Japanese language translation, on Friday September 9 and Saturday September 10, 2011, in the Japan time zone. The 9-hour recordings of this class can be purchased for 28,000 Japanese Yen + 5% Japan Sales Tax, and is suitable for Japanese students only. Please email Dean to place your order. Another English/Japanese teleclass will be made available in the Spring, 2012.

How to book and pay for your teleclass:

The tuition cost for this teleclass is 250 USD, plus an additional 100 USD (to access the teleclass toll-free number from the US, Canada, Australia, as well as many parts of Europe), and covers the 9 hours of the class. If you live outside of these regions the cost may be increased slightly.

Off-Line Students do not dial into the class (and therefore do not pay for the toll-free telephone access), and instead download the digital recordings of the teleclass after it is presented, as well as send in their comments and questions for the class material.

Please email me with your request for either On-Line Student Access (Cost is 250 + 100 USD = 350 USD), or Off-Line Student Access (Cost is 250 USD only), and you will receive a PayPal billing within 24 hours. Enrolled On-Line Students will receive their country specific toll-free phone number, and a private access code, as well as instructions on how to attend the teleclass. Important: using Skype or other VOIP software is highly discouraged; please use your regular telephone line, as a dropped Skype call can stop you re-joining the class. Also, On-Line students unable to attend one part of the three segments may request to receive the recording of the missed class segment.

I look forward to working with you, and presenting this rich material that can advance your energy healing skills!

The co-creative functioning of the healthy fifth chakra is communication and listening skills that interact successfully with others outside of our experience ... so we can make better choices for ourselves, or assist in the exploration of outer (or inner) truths.

This is an edited transcript of the first part of a client’s fifth session of their Six Session Series session. The pre-session dialogue below was immediately followed by chakra clearing and chakra cord work. Many thanks to my client (who will remain anonymous) for permission to share this session.

Dean: “I have an approximate skeleton of work that I follow in the Six Session Series. As we go through the sessions we work on the knowledge that the chakra consciousness centers are inter-related, and that by clearing and tweaking each chakra we create a synergistic effect that enhances personal growth and healing.”

Client: “When I worked with another energy healer his work was completely different to you. He wasn’t working with cords; he was just finding out why the chakra was blocked, including emotionally”.

Dean: “Yes, that is the traditional way that other energy healers work. As an analogy, it is as though a healer sees your chakras as radio transmitters, which they then try to repair or energize.

But if we look at how the chakra system is connected internally (as the building blocks of our inner identity) as well as how the chakras are connected up to people on the outer world (through the medium of chakra cords) the type of healing work we can do shifts considerably. So, to extend my analogy, instead of seeing each chakras as a radio transmitter we also take into account the incoming signals, as well as the outgoing signals to those individuals who are significant in your life. That’s Relational Energy Healing, and this is why chakra cord work is important for system change, and also why Astral clearing has to be included during the work … because we are exploring both the transmission and reception of signals by the chakras, rather than only looking at the functioning of the chakra by itself.”

Client: “I am noticing that I am reacting to people slightly differently than is usual for me. Suddenly I’m getting unexpected offers from people, either to help me out or to accompany me on my hospital visits. It’s … amazing, really.

Dean: “Well, here’s the thing – part of what Relational Energy Healing does is that it works towards increasing options, to opening us up to roads that normally we would not travel down. Again, we are dealing with the transmission and reception of human consciousness, through chakra cord connections. And we know from our previous work together that one of the issues you, personally, are breaking open is how historically you have not accepted support from others, or have not felt support extended towards you. What in these previously sessions we have affectionately characterized as your Scottish stubbornness (which also has many positive qualities!) can lead to insulation or isolation from other people. And during this time of healing and potential change in your life you do need access to all and any support available from others. So, when you tell me, as you just did, that suddenly you are getting offers of support from others, and – even more importantly – you are taking them up on it, that’s a significant change for me as your healer because it shows that your consciousness system is now opening to new possibilities and original forms of other people working with you in this place of change.”

Client: “Yes … I am slowly and increasingly becoming aware of this.”

Dean: “The last thing I do want to say about this is (and this does not apply to everyone) is that often when the chakra system begins to open up to other possibilities there is the initial experience that is new, exciting, and wonderful. But it is possible to max out on, let’s say, too much change. There can be a reaction to the changes that could propel you back to your old habit or ways of being with others. Like a turtle pulling their head back into their shell, some people find themselves retreating from contact that is, historically, different behavior. So, please keep an eye out for any “pullback” that may happen.”

Client: “Yes… and if it happens, I should go against that pull?”

Dean: “My suggestion is not to see any pullback as necessarily a bad thing, but simply to bring your awareness to the point where you are going back to your old habit. And, additionally, personal work can be done by you to keep the new connections you have formed still open. The process, even though you are pulling back, is to still keep the door to others open; it’s part of the integration process.”

Client: “Yes … good…. so, today’s session is the throat chakra?”

Dean: “Yes: this is the Fifth Session of your Six Session Series, and so we will illuminate the functioning of your Throat Chakra, and the cords that flow into and out of it.

The Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) functioning consists not only of speaking but of listening…. and allowing ourselves to be changed by what we hear, or affected/influenced by what we hear. Listening deeply also helps me discern if I am being told the truth – or accurate information – by another person. Of course, sometimes the other is not aware that they are imparting wrong information, but the Throat chakra can still discern the difference.”

Client: “Yes, it’s not a judgement on them …”

Dean: “Right! People may tell us things that they truly do believe are the way things are, and in our best interests, but when this impacts your system you will know something is not right about it. And one of the reasons this is of importance to you now, personally, is that as treatment options are offered to you – both allopathic and alternative treatments – you will need to assess what is being offered to you.

So, the idealized goal of these Six Session Series sessions is to work with your auric energy system, to clear and tune it up, so that you can both perceive what are the best options for you (attentive listening) and communicate with others so they can help you (speaking out). I am not a medical professional and I avidly stay away from diagnosis or any recommendation of medical treatment. Instead, my work is to help your own consciousness system to function optimally, in both the listening and the speaking modalities. This is the arena of the Fifth Chakra.

The last thing to know about this session devoted to the Fifth chakra is related to the higher functioning potential of this center of consciousness. Specifically: we have to be able to ask the right questions, and then be willing to hear an uncomfortable – or challenging – answer. So, this applies to your practical situation in regard to your medical treatments; what are the right questions to ask, and can you then take in helpful or vital information in response to your question? The higher function of the fifth chakra is not to abdicate self-responsibility to any outer authority, but to speak up, to be pro-active, to become an active participant in the healing process.

So, what is it that you need to ask your doctor, your surgeon, your alternative healers, and how can you then make sense of all their input? This is the co-creative functioning of the healthy fifth chakra: communication and listening skills that interact successfully with others outside of our experience, so we can make better choices for ourselves, or assist in the exploration of outer (or inner) truth. And while truth may be seen as multiple shades of gray rather than black-and-white, there are some things that are more true than others. The throat chakra, when it is healthy and supported via dialogue and the critical thinking process, leads us through many of life’s challenges. It is not only there to help us speak out; it is also there to help us take in what we need…”

And about our shared reality. We find ourselves willing to see something radically new.

Energy healing is the application of bio-energy (known as prana, or Qi) to balance or enhance our physical and emotional well-being. Chinese energy healing methods include acupuncture (balancing Qi, using needles on acupuncture points) as one example. But in the West energy healing is more often experienced in the presence of any charismatic helping professional. A good physician, nurse, or psychotherapist unknowingly exudes healing energy. We naturally feel safer in their care than with others who don’t have this quality. We all recognize natural healers and helpers, and we gravitate towards them.

But energy healing is more than just a way to help heal the physical body. Many humans intuit that they possess a spiritual nature, and not just an everyday ego personality. This may be experienced during times of emotional stress, while moving through an ecstatic experience, or during meditation or prayer. We humans are more than just matter: we are beings of consciousness, of light, and as such unlimited by the restrictions of the physical body.

Energy healers, mystics, and shamans have many different names that describe the functioning and development of the human energy (or light) body, each according to their cultures. The European energy healer, for instance, may be a student of some esoteric or magical system, such as the Hermetic Order of The Golden Dawn, or the Kabbalah. Similarly, an Asian energy healer may practice a style of Qi Gong, based on Chinese energy healing principles. Traditional native peoples on different continents have tribal ritual elders called Shaman, who integrate cultural wisdom with natural curing methods. Modern-day American energy healers may combine emotional/belief system personal process work alongside energy healing. And there are medical professionals – physicians, nurses, research scientists – who seek to enhance their allopathic medical treatments with insights from energy healing. But these multiple approaches to bio-energy healing can be distilled down to one unmistakable conclusion: energy is the foundation of the human experience, rather than the material body.

There is another aspect to the coming into awareness of this, our light body. As we relocate our attention and identity from the egoic and material self, and into the energetic self, we naturally find ourselves questioning many of the assumptions we have made about the world, and about our shared reality. We find ourselves willing to see something radically new. Locked into the “normal” world view – as material bodies with egos, with social or family commitments, following careers and paying taxes – we can live a fairly predictable life. But once our energy body begins to wake up, the experience of “normality” usually changes. And may change fundamentally, to the very core of our understanding of the world. These internal paradigm shifts are always shocking to each human ego: an inner identity which, although accepted as “normal” by society and family, suddenly can seem incredibly limited and false to us. Our true identity, as taught by many of the worlds wisdom traditions, is that of an energy body, imbuing the physical body with consciousness. Energy healing – when applied at the right time, and by the healer most helpful to you – not only speeds up any physical healing process you may need, but will also energize this, your light body.

If enough people begin to operate more from their authentic energy bodies rather than their egoic (i.e.,physically-based) reality, our species may be able to evolve beyond our often destructive animal roots, and past the challenges of tribalism. The realization of our body of light as our true nature is not just a personal goal; it has the potential to help others. One “en-lightenment” event can inspire another, and then another, like one candle lighting the unlit one next to it, or like a row of dominoes falling in sequence. Every “en-lightened” human (which I’m defining here as those who drop into deeper contact with their light bodies while also remaining fully present in the physical world) helps others awaken. And remaining in ignorance of our true nature – the light body – may no longer an option for our species. The world which we all share is growing small, and more crowded. Global dangers are brewing, and now threatening our survival as a species. We must evolve to a new level of consciousness. We must fully awaken.

There are three versions of an individual, each “body” connected to our individuated identity in a different way. First there is the physical body, the one we are most familiar with, and which anchors us in the manifested world. The second is the energy or subtle body, which is often described as the body of light. The third is the astral body, which is a self-generated creation of thought and feelings, interacting with other dimensions of existence.

1. The physical body is experienced through reflection: light from an outer source (the sun or other photon-emitter) is bounced off the material world, and our brains then construct a model of solid reality in a way reminiscent of bats and their sonar. But rather than using sonic reflection, humans use photonic reflection, and then their brains fill in the details in order to create “reality”.

2. The body of light can experienced whenever we come into the awareness of who we are as consciousness rather than as mechanical beings. The light body has an anatomy of nadis (energy channels) and chakras (specialized centers of consciousness), and operates through etheric reality: an underlying and fundamental interconnection all sentient beings have with the living world around them. Etheric light is not reflected (photonic) light; it is a structured reality unrestricted by physical distance. While my physical eyes cannot see beyond the horizon my etheric “eyes” are limited only by my consciousness and my focus. If I can create a fix (including an emotional connection) on another person via my etheric energy system I can then interact with that person in some way. The body of light can be more accurately labeled as the etheric light body.

3. The astral body uses neither reflected nor etheric light to function. Astral realities are self-generated forms: they are lit from within. If you remember an astral or a lucid dream, you may recall how what you see is fully lit from any angle, and in every situation. Many lucid dreams are experiences of our traversing the Astral worlds during sleep, when we are no longer fixated on the physical or etheric (relational) worlds. Astral dreams give us a glimpse into worlds where sentient life of many varieties co-exist and interact. The Shaman learns to navigate these realms for the good of the people, forming allies with some spirit beings, and defending us from the predatory ones.

These three bodies – the body of physical matter, the body of light, and the astral body – make up a full human experience. Science, of course, tells us that only the physical body is real. But thousands of years of spiritual development and Shamanic experience demonstrate otherwise. How to know which is right? Only by personally exploring the three bodies for ourselves. We should not accept any self-appointed authority when it comes to discovering our true spiritual nature. We can set out on the quest to re-claim our body of light, and to expand upon our Astral body. These three bodies together make up our full birthright. These three bodies functioning in harmony empower our lives. These three bodies, when awakened, hold our destiny.

As an enthusiastic amateur photographer I’m often struck by the parallels between light-chasing (photography) and light-building (energy healing). Chasing the ever-shifting patterns of earthly light and shade with a camera, the photographer seeks to capture a moment in time and space. Energy healers seek to assist clients in receiving more light into their auric fields to promote personal and spiritual growth. The conditions of light falling onto the physical world – over a landscape, onto a pet, or around our friends and family – define an emotional experience for us. That’s why we take photographs: to freeze an event, so we can look back on it from the future, and remember. But while chasing light is about fixation, building light in a chakra is an act of co-creation. In my reflective moments I see camera function and the chakra function as analogous.

Catching light with your camera requires three things: lens aperture (the size of the opening of the lens letting in light), the speed of the shutter (which regulates just how much light falls on the CMOS sensor), and the amount of light available to you out in the world when you take the picture (the exposure). When the photographer manually sets these three parameters, and composes an interesting picture, we know the results can be wonderful. But if one of the three are not aligned the results will be a failed opportunity. Everything needs to be set up right.

Similarly, the chakra needs three things to function well, and build an enlightened reality: a receptive (and healthy) chakra (equivalent to aperture size) that takes in all kinds of light, not just a limited frequency, an attentive mind/body (equivalent to shutter speed) that awakens to all input, and opportune life experience that can stimulate personal or spiritual growth (equivalent to exposure). Unlike the camera our chakras both interpret (intake) and co-create (output) events in the outer world. Increase the amount of light available to us (say, through a spiritual practice) and we will “see” things in a new way. Open our receptivity to the world (through energy healing or other modalities that assist personal growth) and new options suddenly open up to us. Put ourselves into a new experience (e.g., a course of study, a spiritual journey, a different kind of relationship) and we expose ourselves to previously-unexpected possibilities.

Manually operating our camera forces us to think about all three parts of how our camera works in order to catch light in a singular moment. Similarly, personal growth asks us to break down how we function in life, and offers us the opportunity to step outside of habitual patterns that will always bring us predictable outcomes.

Of course we can leave our camera – or our life – on automatic, and let the in-build programming make all the decisions for us. We’ll still get some nice snaps … but to make art with our camera (or with our life) we have to turn the don’t-want-to-think-about-this function off. We have to go manual all the way. We have to study, and see what does what, and why. Because with our automatic settings switched off, anything is truly possible.

The energetic connections we make with others link us chakra-to-chakra. Our relationships with others are heavily dependent upon these non-physical connections. This is the second article on this web site that focuses on one important application of chakra cord work to our healing process: removal of the invasive cord. It is important because invasive cord removal can speed up our healing process dramatically, just as extracting the hook from a hornet sting enhances the healing process.

It’s very common when healers implement invasive cord removal that, as the client start to change (or shift, or clear their energy system) the originator of the invasive cord attempt to make contact with the client. Prior to invasive cord work the client should be prepared to face their relationship with honesty and courage, as invasive cord work confronts personal issues at a visceral level. As noted in part one of this article, invasive cords symptoms may include some form of energy loss (fatigue, or emotional depression), obsessional thoughts (of the other person, or fears of a life without them), or an actual sensation of pain in the associated chakra.

As we explore the different levels of these invasive cords I want to stress that just because an individual sends out such a cord it does not make them a bad, or evil, person. Invasive cords are a common but often inappropriate use of the relational energy field system. The person sending the cord is attempting to use manipulation or seduction to get what they want: by extending chakra cords rather than entering into a dialogue or a mutual negotiation with another person.

Invasive cords are usually found entering the second chakra (Swadhisthana), the fourth chakra (Anahata), or the Sixth chakra (Agnya). This are the “intake” chakras: their function is to allow deep contact with the outer world, for various levels of intimacy and sharing. However, the very nature of intake chakras leaves them vulnerable for exploitation and “hijacking” efforts by the unconscious motivations – and energy systems – of others. Invasive cords will also be found in the other chakras, but rather than feeding off our needs and desires these other cords misdirect an authentic perception rather than supporting a recognizable truth. For instance, a third chakra invasive cord may turbo-charge our childhood conditioning that our own needs in a relationship are secondary to the other persons needs. Co-dependent behavior can be enhanced by such a third chakra invasive cord, in effect misappropriating the victim’s life force for themselves.

These distinctions – invasive cord draining of energy in input chakras (chakra 2,4,6) and misappropriation of relational needs in the other chakras (chakra 1,3, 5) helps the Relational Energy healer to orientate the energy work so as to plug any symbolic Achilles heel of the client’s chakra system. After the invasive cord removal the chakra that has been affected can be supported to repair and grow into fullness. These two events – invasive cord removal followed by chakra-specific healing- often lead to rapid change in the clients life. By regaining the life force formally drained from them (or, in many cases, given away freely) clients often experience a surge of personal growth advancing their personal evolution. When you are no longer invaded by the relational cords draining or influencing you, then you can anchor back into your own life. You get your life back. You begin to change.

A powerful change has occurred within the field of Energy Healing over the past forty years with the integration of psychotherapy into models of the human energy field as the vehicle of personal transformation. In many ways, these psychotherapeutic models have supplanted tprevious ones based on either Theosophy or the more traditional approaches such as Kabbalistic or esoteric Christian metaphysical systems. But while much of psychotherapy has many decades of research and scholarship behind it therapy’s approach to growth has been attuned to the Western social agendas rather than cross-cultural hidden or esoteric truths. Some healers have attempted to integrate Eastern spiritual principles into psychotherapy but the lack of exposure most people have had to Asia perspective limits their efforts. So, it has been the Western approach to psychotherapy, with its emphasis on revealing unconscious motivators and healing trauma, as well as a stress on communication honesty, that has come to dominate the modern Energy Healing skill set.

While these three factors are important, the developmental underpinnings of the more sophisticated esoteric models of spiritual development of the past remain unknown to most people. Some healers even discount the need for any esoteric study, stressing only a spontaneous (and non-intellectual) act of healing. Many healers will say that all is needed is the correct intention/symbols/prayers, etc, and a healing force will automatically flow through them into the client.

But if we are truly to evolve Energy Healing towards its potential I would suggest building upon the new addition of Western psychotherapy while also reaching back towards the wisdom traditions of the past. Only one part of the human brain works with the rational or social norms; the other is deeply moved by symbolic reality in alignment with greater spiritual forces. Psychology speaks to the conscious mind, while esoteric healing speaks to the intuitive. Then we will find ourselves with a full spectrum approach to energy healing.

But we must also address the current and pressing problems of our present-day generation: denial of any obvious truth, and the passivity of opposition towards increasingly restrictive social change. At its core, Energy Healing, as a spiritual development tool, seeks to reveal the truth about ourselves and about the world. But I believe it offers far more than a simple pranic flow from our hands, more than sharing the knowledge of spiritual or personal development, and even more than the release from trauma in our bodies. It can also awaken us out of the disingenuous dreams foisted upon us by others, whether it is via our family heritage systems, or worldly corporate actions that affect our lives. These are the new enchantments: modern day “spells” cast upon us. We must awaken from them, and into ourselves, and not thoughtlessly embrace any agenda. And when we do awaken, our energy healing work can offer not only relief from suffering but also assistance in helping to evolve the client to a new level of awareness. Energy healing is not just about taking away pain; it is about taking away the ability of others to implement their hidden agendas upon our life force. It is about coming to truly live our own lives, rather than a life defined by others. It is all about our personal evolution.
